A GLIMPSE OF ANCIENT HINDU WISDOM TEACHINGS

PERENNIAL INSTRUCTION
This is a scene on a typical morning in a gurukul (traditional Indian school of learning) ,some five thousand years ago…….
The Shiva sadhu (ascetic) sat  with closed eyes under a giant banyan tree.He was in the process of instructing his students, who sat in a circle around his mud pedestal, at the foot of the tree.It was cool in the early morning hour ,as the sun peeped over the distant treeline.A light breeze rustled the banyan leaves overhead.A twig fell down,a squirrel ran up the tree trunk, and a koel cooed softly in the background.
The guru opened his eyes and gazed  at his disciples calmly as they sat in expectant silence. Then he spoke.
“You must always pray to the lord to give you six shaktis (powers).Every day in the morning as you awaken close your eyes for a few moments and pray to god to give you six shaktis.Over a period of time these powers will make you immensely strong.
Firstly ask for the shakti of buddhi  (correct intellect).
Next ask God to give you the shakti of uchh bhaav (noble intentions).

Thirdly ask for the shakti of kshama(forgiveness, and the ability to overlook slights)
Fourthly ask for the shakti of prasannata(unconditional happiness and high morale)
Fifth  ask for the shakti of dhanyavaad (thankfulness) in all times.
Sixth ask for the shakti of samyak bhaav (stoic  equanimity) ,even mindedness.

Disregarding the vernacular terminology ,it is important to seize the content and connotation of the ancient teachings. These instructions were pristine, often revealed directly, and intuitive.Nothing of the modern management thought even remotely grazed the minds of these profoundly gifted men.
MANAGEMENT  TEACHINGS
What has been depicted here is purely indicative.and only  a slice of life unfolding for humankind then. The wisdom teachings then are very relevant as  much today,as they were thousands of years ago.
Correct thought, noble intentions, forgiveness, thankfulness, and equanimity are sterling qualities espoused till today for the betterment of mankind. What has changed really?Pretty little.Inspite of the gizmos and cutting edge technology inundating our senses from all directions, peace, poise and strength remain  rooted in eternal words of truth .

It does us good,at times, to pour over ancient teachings. To repeat a page out of ancient history is to invigorate the Self with a fresh breath of wisdom. Not stale at all!
